C.I.C.C.A. Christian Initiation for Children of Catechetical Age.

“This form of the rite of Christian initiation is intended for children, not baptized as infants, who have attained the use of reason and are of catechetical age. They seek Christian initiation either at the direction of their parents or guardians or, with parental permission, on their own initiative. Such children are capable of receiving and nurturing a personal faith and of recognizing an obligation in conscience. But they cannot yet be treated as adults because, at this stage of their lives, they are dependent on their parents or guardians and are still strongly influenced by their companions and their social surroundings.”

Is your child seven years old or older and not baptized?

We have a special program for your child to prepare them you celebrate all three of the sacramens of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist), in keeping with the ancient tradition of the Church. Our porgram normally beigins in the Fall and children receive their sacraments at the Easter Vigil.

To accompany you child in the process the church asks that the parents select a sponor/godparents.

The requriements for the sponsor in CICCA and the godparents for baptism arethe same.
In order to serve as a godparent a person must themselves:
  • have received all three sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist),
  • be at least 16 years of age,
  • be “leading a life in harmony with the faith and role to be undertaken”.

The father or mother of the person being baptized may not serve as a godparent.
